Summary:

Battlefield 2 is going to drop you right into the middle of a 21st century shoot-out. The good news is that you have a team of grunts at your side to help you survive the frenzied close-quarters combat. The bad news is that you have to engage the enemy on their home turf, at the world's most dangerous hot spots. You'll need to unleash the fury of an awesome high-tech arsenal that includes laser-guided bombs, heat-seeking missiles, and much more in order to survive. You have all the tools you need to get the job done--Abrams tanks, F-15 Strike Eagles, Wasp Class assault carriers, you name it. Hit the enemy with everything you've got. This is no minor skirmish--this is all-out war with all the high-tech firepower you can muster.

Gamers who like shooting games online are sure to wonder at the excellence of Battlefield 2. It is a thrilling online game that has numerous innovations never seen in other games before. The voice support is just as great as that of the game console version, the functions for both squad and commanders is excellently developed, the graphics are insanely fantastic, and the action is definitely up there.

There are some downsides, but what game doesn't? There are times when the loading time can take a lot of patience. Then there are the online buddies which may be difficult to keep track of, the server browser hiccups, the gameplay mode can be uncooperative at times and then there is the frustrating rebinding controls.

When others dismissed Battlefield 2 as just another one of those run of the mill sequels, they were surprised when it proved, without a doubt, that this is one sequel, which can be considered a stand-alone. Better still, it has quietly proven that a sequel can be better than the original version.

For those who are not familiar with the series, Battlefield 2 is not the second in the series, it is the third. At first glance, it seems to have stuck close to the original formula, which was apparent with the first two games. However, this time, the gamer has the option to use modern weaponry and equipment in the middle of the battle.

Battlefield 2 is set in the not so distant future in conflict ridden locations like China, the US and Middle Eastern Coalition, a fictional place made up of the present day Middle East countries we know today. Somehow, all three have gotten into a fight to the death. The beauty of this version is that it is awesomely unpredictable. There are so many scenes where a single combat can take you to places you've never been before. There are a lot of fights and boss fights to play and it can get grisly like any other combat games.

New and innovative features include the voice over IP where every single game has its own real time voice capability. Investing in a headset with microphone is a must here so the team play gets to a higher level. Online, the team players can shout instructions to one another and plan on ahead of time their gameplay. This is a little over the top and it is my favorite application to date.

There is only one thing I can say: the innovations that has improved this game has made it a little steep to top. There is no other feeling than getting the chance to talk to and play with other online players on real time. No need to use the chat box, it is real-voice chatting here, folks, and it is fun. Take it this way, if a gamer comes in and dismisses this as a mediocre game, the problem is the gamer, not Battlefield 2.
