Blood Bowl 2 brings Warhammer and American football together in this turn-based fantasy sports video game. Developed by Cyanide Studios and published by Focus Home Interactive this is the sequel to the original release known as Blood Bowl. The game was developed for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and was released on September 22, 2015.
The game is a fantasy turned based American football game where the objective is to score touchdowns at the other end of the opposition’s field end zone, or decimating the opposing team’s entire roster during the game. You may decide to trample or crush the opposing teams in your attempt to make the touchdown. The game has both real-time and turn-based strategy driven modes. Players are able to choose to play the game in either of these strategy modes before the start of play.
Blood Bowl 2 features an array of new features over the original Blood Bowl. This section provides a brief summary of some of the additional upgrades and modes which have been added to the latest release.
The game contains a fully realized story-driven campaign where players have the option of being able to Coach the highly renowned Reikland Reavers from their unfortunate demise to eventual champions. You are able to manage their destiny moving forward and the story follows with each match, so as you progress through the matches the story unfold along the way. You will need to have your wits about you when making such sponsorship deals, or shady deals as they can often be.
Current and New Races
All new races have been added to the game enabling the stories to follow the original design, and for the first time you are able to lead the Bretonnian Knights to victory and with that lift the Holy Grail of the beloved Blood Bowl cup. Eight races are included and these are the Humans, Orcs, Skaven, Dwarfs, High Elves, Dark Elves, Chaos, and Bretonnia.
There are also two other new races that are obtained via downloadble content for a small fee, or they can be obtained for free by pre-ordered the game before its official release. These two new races are known as LizardMen and Wood Elves and both these new races have unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses.
The Lizardmen race comes fully equipped with its unique AI and players namely (skinks, Saurus and Kroxigor) but they also have their own star players: Slibli and Hemlock! The biggest strength of the Lizardmen is the Skinks and Saurus. Skinks are very quick and nimble, Saurus are also extremely powerful. The Kroxigor is made up of muscle and scales and is often used when Lizardmen want to hit hard.
The Wood Elves race also comes with its unique AI and players (Passers, Wardancers, catchers, linemen and the Treeman) but also their own star players: Dolfar Longstride and Jordell Freshbreeze. Elves are amazingly agile and almost as fast as Skaven, they are also excellent passers and catchers. The Treeman is probably the strongest player in the whole of Blood Bowl. He's gifted with an extraordinary strength which few players can compete. However, the Treeman is extremely slow and has a tendency to root in the center of the field. If that happens, he won't be able to move, if at all.
AI and GUI
The AI has been redesigned and had a complete makeover, each of the races have the AI geared towards their personalities, this makes for a much more dynamic experience, the GUI has also been completely redesigned as well as the visuals and camera angles and overall presentation. The eight races are well crafted and the movement seems more realistic than the previous release of this game.
3D Dice Rolls
3D dice-rolls are back and make an appearance much more frequently in the game, this was added after many games asked if this could be used more frequently in this new release. The developers responded and now it appears much more often than it did in the original Blood Bowl.
Stadium and Character customization
There are 5 base stadiums from Human, Orc, Dwarf, Dark Elf and Skaven origin, improve and grow each one through four tiers and 10 add-ons, for a maximum of 20 unique stadiums to be found in Blood Bowl 2. You have the options to customize various traits including your team’s jersey.
Blood Bowl 2 can be considered a decent title and those interested in this kind of sport will find much merit here, the game contains a single and multiplayer mode as well, the latter being the more entertaining on the two.
