All told, Ghost Busters The Video Game is a title that is sure to be an instant classic for Ghostbusters fans, and just owners of the Wii alike.
Super Gamer Dude
In case you didn't know it, Ghostbusters was a comedy. An action comedy, to be sure, but it was definitely there to make you laugh. This Ghostbusters video game is the same way, and you'll find yourself drawn into the game through the comedy, just like the movies were able to do. Whether it's listening to one of Egon's deadpan explanations, or Venkman's not-so-subtly couched flirtatious comments, the'll have you laughing through the whole thing.
And that's another aspect about this game that really shines; the authentic voice-acting from the original actors. It really gives the comedic dialogue the proper taste that it needs, coming from the voices that just feel right for the part. By not skimping in this aspect, the product ion company has kept the heart of the game feeling true to the series.
The gameplay itself in Ghost Busters: The Video Game is outstanding. You have a bunch of potential attack types in your pack, each of which works differently against the ghosts you'll come up against. You'll use these different attack types to lower their health enough that you can use the grappling stream, and grab the ghost. Once you have it, you'll need to mash it up against the walls and floor some before directing it over a trap. This is where the Wii Remote really comes into play, because swinging the ghost around by your beam really feels like you're doing it, which is the ultimate in immersion. There are a couple of control issues, like changing weapons, that are difficult to manage on the fly, but generally the control system makes the game feel a whole lot more real, and incredible, than other Ghostbusters video games have in the past.
The story itself is delightful, and will have you investigating destructible environments that look beautiful all over New York. There are bosses aplenty, but the game never feels extremely difficult, since any time you are hurt, your teammates can heal you and help you back up.
One of the biggest issues with this title is the short playtime. It takes about 5 hours to beat, but once you're done, you'll be back for more. There is a split-screen coop mode where you can beat the game with a friend that is also a lot of fun. In addition, there is a scanning system that keeps track of all the ghosts you encounter in a ghost catalog, and you can replay the game to fill it up even farther.
All told, Ghost Busters is a title that is sure to be an instant classic for Ghostbusters fans.
