PlayStation 3

Structured like the previous GT games, GT5 Prologue lets players compete in a number of races, unlock new courses and gain sufficient means to acquire high-class cars; joining the competition is easy as there are no qualifying races required. There are almost 30 locked courses for the player to unlock. And the single-player race is not that long, however the difficulty increase from novice to professional level proves more than a little challenging. Events range from basic and timed races to various objective-laden events, such as finishing the entire race track on one lap.

The game starts with the player having 35,000 bucks, which is adequate to purchase a basic car. The player can choose from a range of cars from a Citroen C4 Coupe ’05 down to the Mazda RX-8 Type S’07. Playing and winning some races will give the player additional credits which he can use to change his car into a new and better one. However, some players choose to save the money and gamble on a 10-race series with a prize of an exclusive new car. GT5 Prologue, does not allow upgrading of car element but later in the game a player can use the quick-tune option.

As of now, Prologue remains one of the few games which excel on the PS3, the surrounding background is filled with intricate and varied elements and perfectly suits the high-resolution screen. The realistic cars have been given a great deal of detail and look impressive as they race around the course. The settings and overall atmosphere are for the most part of high quality, although in a few cases appear plain and static. The intermittent shaking of the screen and distortion of some graphic elements, may for some players be a distraction but generally visual aspect of the game is superb. Another interesting feature is the screen appearing as two-split windows, which allows head-to-head races with other drivers.

Gran Turismo is far from the classic arcade race games. It has lots of interesting features unique to it. The controls are well balanced, being precise but not too sensitive, wheels have great grip and the models have lots of adjustable features suitable for different car types and race tracks.

The player gets to choose on the transmission type of his car, activate a driver-assisted steering, adjust the grip control, change the wheels, or choose the driving line, which is a first in the GT games. The controls can also be reconfigured to suit the player. Racers need to be careful not to go off-track as serious damage to the car results from doing so. Also, be prepared, because the GT5 Prologue has a set of competitive AI racers. The creators have made the game even more realistic this time.

Overall it's a very good game and worthy of play.
