Summary:

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is in denial about the teenagers recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort, preferring to turn a blind eye to the news that Voldemort has returned. Fearing that Hogwarts venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort’s return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. But Professor Dolores Umbridge’s Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community.

The game has no radar, health bar and clichés commonly found in video games. Even if there are no arrow points directing your way, it will not leave you confused in a school made up of seven stories with the help of a Marauder’s map handed to you. All you need to do is hit the Back button to see the map, hit the D-pad left for locations and the right D-pad for people. When you are done in selecting the person or location, a diamond will come out and show the exact location.

Order of Phoenix is not just about accomplishing tasks, attending classes and leaving footprints, you need to pick up your wand and do some action. During the course of the game, you are required to fight against rowdy kids, Slytherin punks and the Dark Lord with the use of the 6 combat spells you have chosen. Since there is no HUD, the only chance you will see yourself hurt or whether or not your opponent is hurting is by way of watching them.

The game was restrained from the start, the combat is flat. During battles, you have to perform side to side and alternate in between flinging attack spells to your opponents and providing protection spells all-around you. These actions are slow in pacing and completely uninteresting.

Despite the factsmentioned above, the in-game action of the game is great such as the awesome interiors of the school and the vistas surrounding the stone bridges of the school, the cutscenes still do not gather together properly though, much improvement is needed, some form of logic in the game would go along way. Instead of creating new models intended for the cutscenes, the developers used the same approaches in the in-game action.

Even if the implementation suffers, the idea is sensible enough sticking to the same images which you constantly see instead of changing models and pulling you out of the game’s experience. The characters may look fine on the screen but in reality they appear completely pale-faced and frightening in the cutscene aspects.

If you are not an avid fan of Harry Potter, you will see nothing but flaws right though, a pot head would find more interest here. You will not be able to listen to the dialogue well since it has been overwhelmed by the music and there are also glitches everywhere in terms of the graphics. With regards to the lasting appeal, when you are done with story after 10-15 hours of playing, you will be able to earn trophies and reveal secrets and behind-the-scene movies.
