'Just Dance 2015' on the PlayStation 4 is a musical dance video game published by Ubisoft and developed by Ubisoft Paris.

The 'Just Dance' series hit us like a bag of bricks when it first premiered back in 2009. How could a game like this be so popular when it seems like everyone is fascinated with the instrument based rhythm games? Going all the way back to 'Dance Dance Revolution' we've had a special connection with rhythm based dance games. Perhaps it was our lack of real life rhythm that pushed us to pick up the title or maybe just pure curiosity. Either way, "Just Dance 2015' hit the shelves for PlayStation 4 owners this past year and there's plenty of music loaded up, so let's get dancing.

Please don't stop the music...

Ubisoft has been knocking it out of the park with their hit dancing franchise and it doesn't look like the music is turning down any time soon. There is always the concern that fans will grow weary of annual sequels, like with many of the less popular sports games out there, but things just haven't seemed to be able to kill the rhythm that 'Just Dance' is bringing. The 2015 episode has been the most enjoyable of the entries to take part in and we couldn't wait to get our friends out in front of the screen.

As we stated above, the rhythm dance revolution started way back with 'Dance Dance Revolution' and a cheap floor mat that allowed us to track our footsteps to various songs. Now we are living in the age of camera integrated consoles and the PS4 is doing all of that work for us. Much like 'Dance Central', 'Just Dance 2015' promises gamers a cooperative and competitive musical experience. On the screen you will be flashed instructions to follow along to as you try to get in the groove to the song. The camera reads your moves and gives you points accordingly for matching up.

Most rhythm based dance games don't actually care if you can dance or not. It is all about sticking to the formula and following the motions accordingly. Due to how precise the nature of these games can be, it is important that the core mechanics are in place to ensure an accurate reading. Fortunately this is not a cause of concern for '2015'.

Upon entering into a game you will appear on screen in front of a variety of background dancers. The stage changes depending on the song and for the most part you won't even notice the background. If you can get over the fact that all of your terrible moves are about to be broadcasted on a big screen, you'll see a small model figure in the corner of the screen. This figure will show you the dance moves that you need to start copying. The closer you get to actually copying the moves the higher your ranking will go.

The primary place you will probably be spending time is in the multiplayer, whether online or offline. When you play locally with friend and family you will have a variety of different options to partake in. You can play in the regular vs. dance mode, with each person taking turns with the song as they try to rack up the high scores. This is fun as it gives you a chance to watch your opponents technique. If you opt to go for the 'crew' dances you will then get to have a pretty crazy time.

Certain songs in the game require a dance crew in order to perform all of the moves. So in multiplayer mode you will get to share the stage with some friends. You'll each take turn busting out moves and it makes for a pretty entertaining and crazy experience. You'll need a lot of living room space in order to properly capture all of the moves.

When you don't have friends around to dance with you, your time will probably be spent on the internet in competition. Despite the fact that this is considered a party game it is also pretty competitive. There are online leader board charts to climb and a nifty matchmaking tool that will put you on the dance floor with other comparable gamers. This might be more serious than most people want to get with a dance game, but for the person dedicated to climbing rankings it will be a fun way to kill some time.

Besides the two aforementioned features we also have a little item called 'Community Remix'. For this feature the PlayStation Eye will record your movements while you dance along to your favorite song. The video clip is then uploaded to the internet and put into a montage with other clips set to the same song. It makes for a fun little distraction as you'll get to connect with other gamers, see their techniques, and actually peak into their living rooms as they dance. This is a great way for gamers to be creative and collaborative in an entirely new way.

'Just Dance 2015' is filled with 45 different songs with the majority of them leaning towards the modern radio crowd. You'll see tracks from Lady Gaga, One Direction, and Katy Perry right next to some more obscure dance tracks. This is one place that the developers could start making money. If they were to create a virtual store to sell songs, similarly to how 'Rock Band' runs their franchise, they would probably be able to make quite a few dollars with it.

At the end of the day 'Just Dance 2015' seeks to improve upon the party atmosphere that their titles have been connected with. The game is fun to play with a few friends and a couple of drinks and it is equally entertaining to try out with your kids or parents. 'Just Dance' combines technical dance moves with great modern songs in order to make a collective experience that is far greater than the sum of its parts. So, whether you are a dancer or not you will be able to find a little bit of joy in the sheer inanity of it all.
