In Lego Harry Potter Episodes 1-4 PS3, you get to take control of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger as you attend Hogwarts School of Magic. You get to play through several of the memorable moments from the first four movies and books in this series. You can enjoy playing through The Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire.

Within each year, there are six levels, for you to complete, in order to advance the story. In between each level you have to attend classes, in order to unlock new spells. Spells are unlocked as you advance through the story, and any spells not automatically learned, can be purchased from Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment.

The first time you play a level, it will be in story mode. Once you complete story mode, you can return later, and replay the level in free play mode. Free play model allows you to gather the items, which you missed in story mode. After completing the first level in story mode, you are able to complete levels in any of the four years, as well as free play mode, by visiting The Leaky Cauldron, and using the Noticeboard.

Nearly Headless Nick will help guide you around Hogwarts to make sure you get to class, and direct you towards the next level in the story. But, in Lego Harry Potter Episodes 1-4 PS3, you are free to explore on your own around Hogwarts or Diagon Alley, and can complete levels at your leisure. Diagon Alley is where you will find all of the shops, the Leaky Cauldron, and Gringott's Bank.

There are all sorts of items to unlock and collect as you advance though Lego Harry Potter. You will collect Lego Studs, in order to purchase different items. By collecting enough Lego Studs in each level, you can earn True Wizard status. Besides Lego Studs, you will want to collect the four Hogwarts Crests, for each school, and rescue Students in Peril. For completing these objectives within each level, you can earn gold bricks.

Gold bricks can also be found in other areas around Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley. You have to purchase some gold brick with Lego Studs. You will need Gold Bricks to complete the Bonus areas of Lego Harry Potter Episodes 1-4 PS3, which are accessible through Gringott's Bank.

As you play through each level in Lego Harry Potter PS3, you will unlock other characters. Unlocked characters can be purchased in Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, and used for free play mode. Red bricks can be found as Owl Posts throughout the game. Once you find a post, take it to the owl, and it will be delivered to Eeylops Owl Emporium. You can visit the Owl Emporium to purchase and unlock advanced skills, such as being able to double the value of Lego Studs. As you advanced through the game, you will also unlock Trophies, for meeting certain goals.
