In Madagascar: Kartz, help the anthropomorphic animals from the Madagascar films win multiple go-kart championships in this four-player racing title. A total of nine themed environments are included, from a beach and volcano to a freighter and zoo, each offering hazards to avoid and power-ups to collect. Perform stunts, battle for three cups, and earn medals in one of four distinct vehicle classes: 50CC, 100CC, 150CC, and 200CC. Featured drivers include Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, Julien, the chimps, and the penguins. Play modes range from a Time Trial and Checkpoint Race to a Quick Race and Championship. As a special bonus, computer animated stars Shrek and B.O.B. (from Monsters vs. Aliens) are also included as playable characters.

Madagascar Kartz is a Mario Kart clone that is unsurprisingly, but still frustratingly, not even near as good as the original.

The only thing different in this Mario Kart clone is that you will drive through Madagascar and with characters from the movies of the same name by Dreamworks. The characters are Alex the lion, Melman the giraffe, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo, as well as the chimps, penguins, and King Julien. Given the fact that the characters are only few, and are rather weak, they added Shrek the ogre and also Bob from Monsters vs. Aliens, which I feel rather unfit. They should have made their own game for these characters, and I wonder if this is quite for promotion already.

What we have to complain is the fact that weapon balance is actually unfair and not impressive. Victims are not alerted when any shot is coming their way, leaving you defenceless, and even if you have a shield power-up, you still never know when it will come. If it had been the other way around or even better, then it could somehow be a good game.

It also does not have anything unique in it that separates it from previous kart racer games. Nothing special, really. You would have a hard time finding your character as everyone has their own characteristics, so you can’t choose a character just because you like him/her. The design also is very similar even though it is made by a completely different group of people.

There are some unlockables and controls which are pretty interesting, such as collecting mangoes to unlock artwork and the Powersliding control through turns to engage in turbo boost. Wii users will be more disappointed because of a tiny problem; the game has no online component. So whether you make it to unlock the artwork, you cannot connect it to your Wii network. If you ask me, I think it is rather due to the fact that Wii has less online audience that's why the designers did not gamble any more to put up this online component, even with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version. Multiplayer is offered but it's through wireless and is only for up to four people.

If you have been playing Mario Kart before and still have the steering wheel, then you can buy the game without the accompanying wheel on the package. Or if you still do not have one, you can buy it together with the wheel. To be honest, this game's wheel is actually better controlled than with the Mario Kart wheel. However, if you don't want to use this, you can use nunchuk for steering, but you cannot use the Classic or GameCube controller in this game.

Madagascar Kartz is not really a very bad game of its kind, but it is just rather not different at all. Action does not pretty well, but again the weaponry is bringing the whole game down. It gives you that feeling of losing without even a chance to fight or to cover yourself, which is really disappointing.
