Nintendo Wii

It has been almost a year since Mario Kart Wii has been on the market and has been viewed to be the best racing game on the platform up until now. As a result of its huge success, a number of developers have tried to take their shot at imitating the game. Though many of the imitations have ended in rot, Electronic Art’s recently launched NASCAR Kart Racing is more in line to challenge Mari Kart as the best racing game in the Wii.

Apparently, NASCAR Kart Racing obviously borrows various ideas from the Mario Kart game: Rockets in race start, most of the items, very resounding similarity of rockets based from Koopa Shells, power ups, lightning bolts and many more. Though borrowing ideas from other franchises is not really that of a bad idea, it’s been going on for years and years and with what Mario Kart has succeeded in, you can’t really blame EA sports. However, too much resemblance of a game to another game makes it harder to distinguish how it plays in its own right. On the other hand, NASCAR Kart Racing emphasizes more on teamwork, unlike its predecessor. 2 gamers partner up to combine stats, points and more, there is also a point in the game when two partners drive close to each other as they get In the Zone. This certain feature in the game allows the racers to charge their nitrous boost faster which is such a tremendous help as we all know, Nitrous Boost could be the difference between winning and losing.

There are even more features which stand more on the teamwork side of the game, like the slingshot which enables both partner racers to sling past each other in an effort to pass other cars without having to use up your boost. It is pretty nice to see teamwork being the centrepiece of the game, which makes it more fun to play with a friend in the same room and cooperate. The partner mechanics also work in getting points and poll spots, when a partner wins a game; the other half is also credit for the win, enabling him to progress to the next level. However, neither will progress if not one of the partners finish in first place. Insuring the game of a higher speed, action packed race to get to the top.

There are 12 unique and challenging tracks in NASCAR Kart Racing. Tons of Jumps, hairpin turn, various shortcuts ready to be discovered and although 12 tracks does not sound like much, each track’s design is great and challenging that it should keep players occupied for a long time. And if that isn’t enough, there are unlockable characters in the game as well.

NASCAR Kart Racing is certainly not perfect, especially without it having an online mode. In this modern gaming age, Online gaming is very essential for most games, especially with competitive racing games where competition against people online spices up the game more. Never the less, NASCAR Kart Racing is a solid game that should appeal to gamers around the world. However, sad to say, it’s not possible that it would take top spot from Mario Kart as the best racing game for the Wii.
