Need For Speed: Shift Xbox 360 User Review
Super Gamer Dude
In this game there is no storyline. The only thing that is close to the story is the voice over that you will hear when the game is starting, which will be telling you that you have been given the chance to prove yourself in a BMW M3 around Brands Hatch before you can win some cash and you can also choose your own ride. The next time you will hear the voice is when introducing new events.
What happens when you get behind the wheels of the car is what is important. Make sure to literally get behind the wheels otherwise if you area third person camera cockpit view is what makes the NFS Shift unique from the other racing games. The cockpit view is extremely good and it makes you feel like you are in the seat of a horsepower-bleeding supercar. It is actually my favorite. The view is dynamic and change with shifts and rolls when the gas brakes or gas are applied. If you want to rock the car back and forth all you do is seat at the starting line and revving the engine. By slamming the brakes you will be pushed forwards towards the dashboard. This move is delicate enough that you may not notice it.
The coolest scene is when you crash and your view is chucked around, the colors fade and out and you will get a blurred vision. You will however not get worked up by this but you will be grateful for the points you will gain which will total to quite a large amount of dollars. The exceptional cockpit view extends to the games sense of speed. At whatever speed rate you are driving, you will know this.NFS Shift will make you respect speed. This is a rare feeling in most of the racing games. In NFS Shift you have no fears of crashing and losing your life. You have a lot of control of your car all the time.
Newcomers will find the game very easy as they do not require a lot of knowledge or experience. You will however need to practice so that you will perfect your skills. You will like the engine samples, nice crashing effects which are mixed correctly. You may however not like the drift events. The physics simulation may feel different and thumping the gas will cause your car to spin out, even at the very starting point. The vehicles are set to be awfully slippery and it is your job to keep them on track to avoid rolling over.
In the career mode you will get rewards for anything you will do. Your finishing place in the race will earn you stars. When the starts build up over your career they will unlock the successive tiers in the game. You will also win profile points; make sure you stick to the racing line to get the points. You will feel like you are going through a to-do list because you have every step laid down for you.
In short the NFS Shift is a great racing game, you will; do it over and over again. The great music and the sleek visuals will obviously keep you looking forward to the next great events.
