PS Vita

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is an action video game which was developed by Omega Force and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PC. This is the sequel to One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 and was released on August 25, 2015 as a single and multiplayer fighting game.

The game takes place from the East Blue Saga until the Dressrosa Arc, with an original ending. The gameplay depicts the first two installments so nothing here has changed noticeably. A new feature has been added called the Kizuna Rush, this summons another character alongside the player during battle to perform a combination attack as a duo. You can have up to four players which can be summoned at once, when a larger number of players perform the finishing attacks, the attacks become more powerful as more characters join the attack. The game also offers much humor and this coupled with a frenetic style of gameplay only add to the charm of the overall experience.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 contains more playable characters than the previous two installments, some did appear in the previous games but they were never actually playable. Many characters found within the game have a number of costumes from which to choose from, these costumes have different special attacks are skill movesets when placed upon the wearer. The remaining characters with bolded groups have no moveset changes which can be applied.

The game features a progress indicator which is known as "Legend Diary" that keeps track of player progress, as you defeat bosses with Special Kizuna Attacks or fulfil other miscellaneous tasks your progress indicator starts to rise. This happens gradually and the player is rewarded and then character stats can be unlocked, including special secondary attacks. The game also features these "Skill Posters", when obtained this allows for each character to unlock various skills to aid the quantifying conditions found within the game.

The characters found within One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 often have their own trademark weapons and are often accompanied by a special attack or specific ability which is used to fend off enemies, a few example below.

Sabo fights using his trademark pipe weapon, along with fire-based abilities which were formerly owned by the character Ace. He also has some special attacks which he calls upon when needed.

Ace is back in Pirate Warriors 3 and can put up quite a fight using his fire attacks. He might not use a weapon but makes up for it with his fists and knowledge of fire.

Tony Tony Chopper might be known as the little fella, but can transform into various forms with different offensive moves whilst attacking, he also has the power to transforms into a giant beast.

Other characters depicted in the game, including enemies each have different types of abilities and weapons.

Dream Log and Legend Log

In addition to the characters, there is also a "Dream Log" mode where characters and items are unlocked, this happens as the player progresses through the various-randomized battles whilst playing the game. In addition to the "Dream Log" there is also a mode called "Legend Log" and this mode is basically the main story mode within the game. You cannot just access "Legend Log" either, it sort of just happens, most often when you have defeated an authoritative enemy, playing a certain character, completing specific tasks that have been set. Once the "Legend Log" has been unlocked cutscenes are shown and characters can be unlocked, after the completion of the missions that is. So, completing Chapter 1, Episode 2 would unlock the Straw Hats’ Sniper Usopp, completing other missions would unlock other characters found within the "Legend Log".

In conclusion, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is a decent yet complex title, it will take some time to work out how the game is put together and best played, I have yet to scratch the real surface so can only elaborate on what I have found out so far. The downloadable content from what I remember contains 8 new missions and also 8 new costumes although some gamers have reported that some costumes have been removed, so you may want to check beforehand should you plan on purchasing the downloadable content. The downloadable content is also only available on certain consoles.
