This game is one of those that really goes out to prove that very good story telling will never go out of style. It keeps for ages and will entertain you for a very long time. That said, this game is a reimagination of the Bram Stoker classic that talks about the gothic tale of Draculas beginnings.
It is a very chilling and somewhat haunting tale that will have you thinking about creepy London streets and with gas lamps to boot. Although you may think that this is one of those stories that have been done to death, they way they went about the treatment of this tale is very nice and it shows great respect for the story and yet manages to be innovative at the same time. They take a bunch of familiar characters and make them go in the most amusing jaunts across Europe and the middle-east as well. Although there may just be too many pixel hunts in addition to logic puzzles that seem somewhat impossible to solve without consulting a walk-through guide, they arent nearly enough to ruin the fun of such a well told story.
Dracula: origins stays true to the original storyline of the Bram Stoker story but also adds to the story by adding new twists in some new areas and also changing the focus from that of an average drawing-room style horror into more of a detective story. You have the infamous vampire hunter Van Helsing as the main man instead of just being in his supporting role as in the book. He moves through a myriad of places just to go out and save Mina from Dracula who is hell bent on raising the dead. The story progresses in such a way that it looks like a mash up of Dracula, some Sherlock Holmes elements thrown in and perhaps reminiscent of some HP Lovecraft tales only not nearly as weird.
You may notice while playing the game that the script really doesnt sound like what Stoker wrote but that may be a good thing and it shows that the game is truly excellent on its own as it attempts to take a more modern approach to the Victorian Gothic tale. The voice acting is really truly impressive if you are one for melodrama. Well, it is mostly Van Helsing who gets really worked up for the smallest things and also gets somewhat uptight over minute annoyances such as a locked door. Maybe its just the stress but poor Van Helsing could easily get a role in a Mexican soap opera one of these days.
It is entertaining and it is worth every bit of your money but it has its drawback such as the game play. It may make you feel like you are playing a point and click game that was developed some 20 years ago. But if you like these kinds of games and you are a fan of Bram Stokers Dracula, then by all means go ahead and give it a try. This will prove to be a great game despite its drawbacks and as was mentioned earlier, great story telling never goes out of style.
There have been probably dozens of street fighter versions out in the industry of video gaming and most of us probably know what the franchise is all about. Street Fighter has been the most sought after fighting game in the industry since it first surfaced in the scene over two decades ago. When you hear Street Fighter, you probably think about Ryu, Ken or Bison. But what constantly coincides with each Street Fighter installments is the amazing and second to perfection fighting mechanics that the game offers to its fans. Street Fighter has been an icon of fighting games throughout the course of time. The developers and publishers have been constantly on the run with the modern era with their timely releases and there has been no single installment of the series that fluked.
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition poses to be another landslide success for Capcom. It has been very pleasing with how Capcom has been caring enough to keep PC gamers in line with all their releases, contrary to the other new fighting games on release. The Street Fighter Series has always found a place for the keyboard & mouse fanatics. The version includes the complete thirty nine character roster with the additional of four new characters for the Arcade version. As expected in a Street Fighter game installment, the fighting mechanics, movements, and actions are still second to perfection. Nothing much has been changed in the gameplay standpoint from Street Fighter IV but it does pose some minor tweaks and some improvements; tweaks in for online experience and character balancing fixes are just some the noticeable things in the Arcade Version package.
The addition of a few characters is also one of the significant improvements in this package. Yun and Yang, the skateboarding twins from Street Fighter III comes back to scene, with the other slots filled in by Evil Ryu and Oni (an even more evil type of Akuma) these characters are very well balanced and fixed to take on the other original characters fairly in combat. Some ultimate skills and moves have also been tweaked to give better balance to the game. However, Yun and Yang poses to be the favorite set of characters to play. This makes online games even better, with all the improvements it got in the release of this new version. The ranking system and online gameplay has been designed to be even more robust than ever. It has been revamped from the ground up with major tweaks and gameplay improvements for competitive online play, which seems to be where fighting games are more played on rather than arcade or single player modes. Capcom has also been kind enough to tweak some visuals and graphic display for the PC versions to deal with compatibility issues such as anti-aliasing, motion blur, pre processing and more.
Street Fighter IV will certainly be a must have game for your PC, other than the evident lag in online games brought on by a flood of gamers. If you have a good internet connection, you will probably find yourself playing the games for a very long time.
Fans all over the world of this highly rated life-simulation video game will surely be in their toes with this latest expansion pack for The Sims 3. The Generations add-on pack has been the widely awaited pack for the franchise since the success of the previous add-ons. However, The Sims 3: Generations has fallen short of being what was expected from the developers after a fairly long break from the last add-on which was fairly a big success. Normally, Electronic Arts are coming up with their expansion packs for the franchise in two categories; one is the Stuff where they would simply integrate some new stuff into the game such as accessories, furniture, toys, gadgets, etc. These types of expansion such as Pets do not necessarily change the overall gameplay as much as it introduces new stuff for decoration and design purposes only. On the other hand, the other type of expansion is what is known to be the Core Game Changer, expansion packs such as; World Adventures and Ambitions sets to change the core gameplay and experience of Sims 3.
The issue with Generations is that it seems to be not with one category at all. It smacked in the middle of those two as it poses some new stuff, with slight configuration to the core gameplay that is mostly not that noticeable. These facts have made this new expansion somewhat confusing to the fans in how it would fair in their books. Sims 3 Generations do add is some nifty cool stuff to the gameplay with new equipments, a bunch of new stuff and tendencies from all age ranges, a single new creature The Imaginary Friend and a new career. When you come to think about it, the changes are vast, with numerous gameplay improvements and lots of new tendencies. As you may have guessed from the title, The Sims 3 Generations mainly focuses in enhancing and broadening each sims' various stages in their lives. From toddlers, adolescence, teens, young adults, adults to oldies; Generations packs some nifty stuff that deepens how each sim acts and lives their lives that coincides in the stages of their lives. Toddlers learn to dress up and play princess, dinosaurs, or astronauts and have the ability to come up with the new creature The Imaginary Friend. Generations have also ramped it up for the teens, with various social events and parties teen sims can attend to, even the enraged teen hormones are realistically being integrated into the game. Adults can experience mid-life crisis and oldies; well they just wave around their canes to scare people away.
The new additions are something fans could really have fun exploring. The new video camera will give you the ability to record certain moments in your sims life and play it on the TV set. The new career in daycare can certainly be something worth trying out. However, when you talk about it in overall, there is a lot of confusion as to where this expansion pack stands and raises the question if it is ever worth the money.
Far Cry 2 offers the players a lot of freedom on how to complete the missions. There is a stunning visualization of the African scenery where the action takes place for a whopping 30 hours of gameplay. There are a lot of rewards and chances to upgrade the character and the weapons. The only downside? The plot leaves much to be desired, but who cares? Also, Africa can be quite a large place to travel on foot.
First shooter games like Far Cry 2 is a world of violence. This is what mindless shooting and blood and guts is all about. Fortunately, the developers of the game realized that mindless killings and destruction are what the gamers want, especially when they want to vent out their frustrations on inanimate objects. The setting: Africa. It is a large expanse where the mercenaries get to meet all sorts of challenges, enemies and even wild animals. The multiplayer mode adds a lot of challenge to the gameplay which can keep the gamer on their toes for hours on end.
The gamer plays the role of a mercenary, obviously, who is working for someone who wants a certain arms dealer, simply called the Jackal. This guy proves to be stealthy and it takes all the skills and analysis to get to that guy. At the heart of the chaos that is Africa, there are two organizations: APR and UFLL. Here, the character spends time working one time with APR and another with UFLL. It is important to know how they work and it takes all the hours of energy to get through the tasks that are directed toward the player. Add in the complication that the character suffers from malaria which can mean getting sick at times and having to suffer through the fevers and chills.
Although the multiple player mode is great, the single player can be a bit disappointing. The multiplayer can drag up to 30 hours. But get this; the single player can drag much longer than that. Get prepared to meet up a lot of challenges and fights which can test whatever skills were learned with other first shooter games. This is the time to get out whatever learned skills and apply them.
Visually, Far Cry 2 is fantastic and beautifully displays the beauty that is Africa. The sound is great as well, there is the tribal music which can hypnotize at times and makes the player relax at the times when the character has to wait out an enemy. The voice acting is iffy at best, so lets not go there.
Overall, this is a game where any gamer can get lost in oblivion. For some reason, the player waits it out when the character they control is waiting it out. Times can get really hectic so it is a good idea to not forget to eat. This is a lengthy game and it can go on longer if not prepared. Make sure to drink lots of water as well.
