Wii vs. Wii U:

The Wii and Wii U use the same portal. They are completely compatible in every way except for the software. The Wii software will work on the Wii U (though the game won't be in HD if they play with Wii software), but the Wii U software will not work on the Wii. Toys will work on both platforms.
