Something that mobile games have become over the years, whether it be Tekken on the Game Boy, or Mario on the same platform, you can be sure that they are just there for the sake of being on handhelds as well as consoles. However, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimension has proven to be more than just a cheap adaptation. It sets its own mark on the DS as a stand-alone with of course some relation to the console game.

What’s better than one spider-man? Four spider-men of course! The story line is a blast as the game allows three spider men to become the hero of the game. This is really cool as many people can’t get enough of Spidey and his cool moves and attitude, and we always hoped there would be another spider man game on the way. And what do you know we can have that in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimension. Not to mention that all spider-men have their own weakness which can be filled in by the other one. For instance, one spider-man cannot crawl on a wall (is that right? a spider cannot crawl on the wall?) at the start of the game. Overtime, each spider-man will get enough powers from each other to make things a total package.

Most people are going to expect that the game is going to be all button mashing as in most games, complicated controls are not adapted in the DS. Well this game is still that, but it does offer a lot of variety with the simple combination of fast and slow pressing of the Y button. Pretty neat wouldn’t you agree?

It is unfortunate that there are some aspects of the game that spoil almost all the good stuff about it. For instance, playing the game in normal difficulty allows you to see all the boss locations together with the location of other items. This totally spoils the discovering aspect and all you need to be concerned with is the path you need to take to get there. You can adjust the difficulty of course, but that does not add anything much as the locations of the boss and the items are already exposed in the normal mode and they do not change position. It’s like playing hide and seek when you already know where your playmates are hiding.

Although you will be going from place to place, the environment can get repetitive and even though there are small puzzles along the way, you won’t even break a sweat in solving them as chances are you will have already solved a similar puzzle in the previous levels.

Probably the biggest disappointment that you will get from the game is the fact that it is too short. Really short I mean. By the time that you are enjoying the game and you have already combined the various powers of each spider-man, the end comes to the credit screen.

Finding a game such as this is a rare find. Too bad it suffers some hard hitting faults. But overall, the game is still worth the buck and you can be sure to enjoy your time in playing the game.
