Summary:

Dr. Aiden Krone has made a time jump across the space-time continuum - a reckless act with frightening consequences.  Now, a disturbing alternate reality has evolved within the bleak and rain-soaked Alpha District.  Armed with the experimental Beta Suit, you alone are able to slow, stop and reverse the flow of time.  Only with this ability can you lead the uprising to victory and put an end to Krone's madness. The storyline has Swift trying to fix the global changes he unwittingly set off while working on behalf of the government, making him a hostile target of his former employers. While advancing through the game's exterior and interior environments, players can slow time in order to sneak past defenses, disarm enemies, and avoid traps.

Cool weapons and interesting time manipulation, still not enough for this uninteresting and repetitive game.

Time warping has always been a fun theme to play with, but this time, you’ll find many gaps in the storyline, puzzles, and objectives. This game does not really concentrate on the time shifting thing, but rather its main objective is to shoot and kill enemies. You will never get the story through the screenplay, and you’ll have to re-read the manual and the box to understand its plot, and even if you read the story, you’ll find it hard to connect it onto the game itself. There’s this Dr. Krone stealing a special suit used for time warp and since he’s a bad guy, he created an alternate reality which you have to stop by using the other special suit and travel through time again.

If there’s something fun about this, it’s time shifting using the suit - you can even pause a certain time to kill enemies and regenerate health, though you can’t prevent your own death. You can make fun of others such as your enemies by pausing time and doing some tricks to them so when the pause mode is over, they will look confused and funny. But that is all there is, nothing really to challenge your mind or your skill - it’s just plain pause, stop, and play.

As I said, you mostly have to shoot your enemies with a powerful gun, but you can however make it fun by playing along with the time shifting machine. But you’ll get tired of the same scenario soon enough since you’ll know what to do when you face the same situation again and again. Enemies aren’t very challenging to fight too, even with the difficulty level, you can easily seek cover anywhere and defeat the AI of the enemies.

Multiplayer function is rather unorganized and uninteresting, though in all fairness gives some fun still. You can rank and match yourself with other players and show off your abilities either alone or by team. There’s deathmatch where your aim is to control the time spectrum as ordered by the King of time. There’s meltdown madness where you throw grenades to other teams to slow them down. You can even run, reduce gravity, jump, and be a survivor.

Visually speaking, it is not really amazing but it’s definitely improved especially the fantastic display of explosions, flying body parts, and rain effects. This is most pertinent in slow mode or in pause mode. Playing it in Xbox does not really have the highest quality, and you better play it in PC if you want to experience higher-resolution.

With the length of time used for TimeShift’s development, I was actually expecting more challenge and more attention to detail in this game. I expected it to be a time shifting game with some added features - not the other way around. Overall, with its current configuration, you can just classify it just as a shooting game with some added time travel.
