The idea is fun, I mean who wouldn’t want to slash and kill zombies? This is the whole idea of the game. The troops that join you are pretty good in the sense that they do a good job in taking out enemies when you need them too, which makes the whole idea of freeing them worth it.
There is no other way to enjoy a muscular character than have him slice and dice zombie enemies face to face, and this is one thing that Viking accomplishes with ease. The whole story revolves around Skarin who, with the aid of Freya, sets out to find and kill the queen of the underworld Hel. And since the battle features a war against a tough opponent, Skarin is going to need help and he can get it by freeing the armies that Hel has captured. This is where you spend most of your time in the game, you kill zombies to free your army and then they give you more tasks to kill more zombies or even set more troops free and after that they join you.
The idea is fun, I mean who wouldn’t want to slash and kill zombies? This is the whole idea of the game and this stretches out further into the end of the game. The troops that join you are pretty good in the sense that they do a good job in taking out enemies when you need them too, which makes the whole idea of freeing them worth it. This makes the game a bit easier than the usual adventure games, pretty user friendly most especially for new gamers.
The graphics are really nice. Whenever you slice an enemy blood comes out. A bit mature but realistic, something that gamers have been looking for in most games.
The game is not limited to the idea of slice and dice, some stages of the game need to be solved through stealth and puzzle solving. This is not new for a feature, but this makes Viking a unique slice and dice game in that mixes the fun of both head to head battles and ninja like stealth to take the curve from boredom.
However the game gets pretty much repetitive. Although there is a mix of stealth and puzzle solving, the game is more inclined to slice and dice aspect. By the time you have slashed a million enemies to free a comrade, he gives you more tasks to solve (which includes zombie killing) before he joins you. Again, it gets repetitive.
The fact that you only need to press and alternate between two buttons to make an attack makes the game pretty basic It’a pity that more buttons were not involved to add more complexity to the game.
The graphics are need to be great but when you get yourself involved with a big battle – something that you will do for the major time in the game – but the frame rate drops and enjoying the game is really a hard thing to do. The audio is also bad as sometimes, there will be no sound when you slice the hell off an opponent. Sometimes the sounds kick in and sometimes they don’t. Don’t worry, it’s not your ps3 it’s Viking.
I don’t really get the fact that the cloud darkens and it rains when the enemies are close and you are about to engage in a battle. And when you win the battle the sun pops out and the birds sing, pretty cheap if you would ask me.
But if the idea of slice and dice never gets old for you, and macho man is your hero then you may want to try this game out.
